Drujienna’s Harp

Drujienna’s Harp is a curious YA/middle grade adventure story. Two children, Tha and her younger brother, enter an antique shop and are pulled out of this world and into Tpal, a world of concentric circles. They are entangled in a prophecy that relates to the three ages of the world, and chances for restoration or destruction. So far, so typical, you may be thinking, but what makes the story different is the uniqueness of the places and the world as a whole (a reviewer on Amazon says “I think the startling landscape that serves as a backdrop for the story is half the beauty of the story”), and the sensitivity and realism with which all the characters are drawn. You travel to the edges of the world with the characters, and when you meet an eventual prince, he’s not at all what you’re expecting. People’s choices aren’t easy ones; temptations are hard to resist. But mainly, the thing I recall–and when I read it, I was older than the target audience–was how completely entrancing the world was. And the prophecy rocks!
